This is great and exciting news! IKEA has so many great vases, votives, candles, and other fun things to decorate events....
IKEA, the Swedish home furnishings retailer, is coming to Colorado.
A 400,000-square-foot store will be built on 13.5 acres along the western side of Interstate 25 in the Park Meadows area, accessible from connections to the Dry Creek Road or County Line Road exits, the company said in a news conference this morning at the Centennial City Hall.
The opening date was not announced.
Store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide.
The proposed store would be the first in Colorado. Now the closest outlet for the popular retailer is in Draper, Utah.

Just another day at Bella Fiori
A few months ago whenever we encountered a strange moment at work Sarah would say - "Just another day at Bella Fiori". I think all of us girls say that every week now :)
A list of our top moments in the past 5+ years:
1) My friend's wedding where prior to ceremony her officiant stepped on the train of her dress and caused a 5" tear in the back. Turns out I can sew! Greg at Willow Ridge Manor handed over a sewing kit and I got to work on sewing the hole closed before ceremony started!
2) Another time at Willow Ridge when a groomsman didn't try on his pants before the wedding day and on the day of he realized they were 6" too long. Greg handed me a bunch of safety pins and I went to work on hemming up his pants. (I thought we only did flowers?)
3) A wedding at Donovan's Pavilion in Vail - the three tiered cake shows up in boxes in the back of a bridesmaid's car. Luckily, those Wilton cake decorating classes I took while in college came back to me - I remembered how to assemble the pillars and keep the cake from sliding off.
4) Last December 30 at Boettcher Mansion we had a 6pm ceremony with a chuppah setup outside. The winds were blowing 30-50 mph that day and it was freezing cold. Michelle stayed strong with me as we stood outside in our skiing/snow gear and held onto that chuppah til ceremony could get started. (It did manage to blow over once).
Oh, I'm sure we've had some other crazy moments, these four are just my most memorable. I'll be sure to ask the girls this coming week while we prepare flowers for next weekend and post their stories.
I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely September, I know I'm glad to see some cooler temps. ;) I'll try to get some more photos posted from the previous weeks - we've just been so busy with weddings, corporate events, lots of birthday parties and our big move! The next two weeks we have some cool weddings to work on and then on September 21 I catch a flight to London where I'll be taking a week long class with Paula Pryke - my favorite floral designer in the world!

Flower Inspiration :: Tropical theme birthday party
July brought us a lot of fun events, seems like everyone had something to celebrate.
One of the cool parties we did was a 50th birthday surprise party held at the family's private home in south Parker. Here are some of the photos:

The above cake was designed by Elegant Bakery. The parrot was amazing!

Each table inside the home had a floral display. Here we had three cube vases filled with lemons and one yellow cymbidium floating on top. Bear grass connected the three vases.

An all lemon yellow arrangement - lemons in the base with yellow sunflowers, yellow orchids, billy balls and coxcomb.

Each dining table was set monochromatic. Tom from The Food Guy brought in the most vibrant table cloths which looked awesome on the back patio. We designed a corresponding arrangement for each table. In the base of the vases we alternated rolled leaves, lemons, oranges and limes. Each arrangement used all one color but lots of various flowers to achieve the look. Here we had set them on one table prior to the setup so that we could show how the arrangements differed.

Most of the party took place on the back deck and surrounding the pool We placed tiki torches filled with dendrobrium orchids and bear grass around the perimeter of the porch.

Tom Harper from The Food Guy Catering

Hitomi Gilliam
Last Monday I was fortunate enough to take a class with Hitomi Gilliam, one of the most distinguished artisans in the floral industry. Hitomi resides in British Columbia and came to Denver to give a hands-on workshop. I really enjoyed the class as she introduced a new type of design to me - very clean lines, Asian influenced, less-is-more. Plus, a few tips for mechanics.
Here are some photos or Hitomi's works of art:

Wedding Crashing: A Green & Brown Extravaganza
Check out this fun website:
Wedding Crashing: A Green & Brown Extravaganza
Rebecca, a bride we worked with last April, sent this link to a fun blog. Her awesome wedding is highlighted.
Looks like a great website for brides to visit and do some planning.

Happy 4th of July
Happy 4th of July weekend... and what a weekend it was. We traveled as far north at Niwot, as far west as Beaver Creek and an altitude of 11,000 feet and as far south as Arrowhead Golf Course. Oh yea, the girls and I covered a good portion of the state this past weekend. :)
My two favorite touches from the events:
The wagon used to pull the flower girl down the aisle. We decorated it with a delicate garland of orchids, berries, snapdragons and ranunculus.

The entry way piece at a private home - three vases of various heights. The tallest with white callas and peach stock. The medium vase holding peach French tulips, salmon gerbers and peach asiatic lilies. The shortest vase with green and white hydrangea and peach calla lilies.

Once again - a HUGE thank-you to the wedding planners we worked with this weekend.
